AHCC Members may have recently received correspondence from AusCycling notifying of a Special General Meeting being called from a national perspective, to be held on 23rd April 2026.

We encourage any members to provide feedback asap, to the committee in relation to this meeting, so your voice is heard on behalf of the club and can help determine our response to AusCycling.

Why is this happening?

This situation started in 2025 with Harlequin Wheelmen Cycling Club writing to clubs expressing concerns with AusCycling and their direction with the sport. We saw this letter as expression of some legitimate concerns, in an opinion piece format, of what they saw as wrong with how the journey with AusCycling since its inception, has played out for clubs and its members. For transparency, please find the original letter here.

These are some of the key concerns with AusCycling, that were raised, from a national level:

  • Failure to adequately support cycling participation below the elite-level
  • Insufficient consultation and engagement with the clubs
  • Lack of transparency and accountability, in regards to membership costs

Recently, a letter was received by clubs from Canberra Cycling Club and Midlands Cycling Club calling for a SGM (Special General Meeting) with AusCycling and they provided a more detailed and succinct set of proposals and resolutions. Please find the correspondence from these clubs with details of their proposals and resolutions:

Detailed summary of the proposal

The AHCC committee did agree to sign the request for a Special General Meeting based on the proposals put forward and stated reasoning. Members would have received notice of this in the email from AusCycling

The Special General Meeting has been called as it received the endorsement of enough clubs. However, of the proposals put forward, the only proposal and resolution that has been put on the agenda by AusCycling, is the removal of the Chair of AusCycling. The other proposals have not been included.

Concerns we have as a club

Launched, back at its inception, was the Three Horizon model, which mapped out the future with AusCycling and what was the key objectives of the organisation. We encourage you to read more about this model here

AusCycling have acknowledged not all objectives have been met in the initial phase of this model. We accept these projects are hard to deliver on all objectives, but feel from AusCycling, there needs to be more urgency, advocacy and attention given to the concerns of clubs and how we can address the problems facing the sport going forward.

From our own club level, being a road racing club, these are the concerns we have, which have been raised previously by the club and for a significant period of time and we need AusCycling to help address, for the future of cycling clubs in Australia:

  • Increased regulatory requirements
  • Soaring event costs
  • Decreased participation
  • Significant membership costs
  • Increased competition for events
  • Adverse publicity for road cycling
  • Decreased volunteer participation

So, to all our members, do you think the leadership of AusCycling should remain in its current form to continue its Three Horizon strategy or do you think a change is required and a new team going forward?

Please email us at president@adelaidehillscc.org.au with your feedback, prior to the SGM.
