Fox Creek: Issues specific to this course
Fox Creek and Fox Creek (Lite)
There are 2 versions of this course.
The ‘Lite’ version has 1 less lap for most grades.
Check the Entry Boss listing to make sure the correct version is being managed for this current event (in Entry Boss, the listing will show ‘Lite’ if this applies: if the ‘Lite’ wording is not used, then the normal distances apply)
For the course documents – Personnel Plan and Race Laps Management, there is a separate ‘Lite’ version.
Check with the timekeepers to ensure that the timing system is using the correct distances (as shown on the Entry Boss listing and the Personnel Plan)
Alpe d’All Adelaide Series
This event is part of the Alpe d’All Adelaide Series.
Check the procedure for this series in the Procedure manual <EVENTS><Events: special events> for things that need to be addressed,
In particular, note the instructions for grading and the grades that are to be used.
Parking controls on Post Office Road
On the northern side of Post Office Rd, the section from the finish line to Mill Rd, we block-off parking with bollards and cones.
At least 2-days before the event, we letter-box drop residents to inform them of this (the Safety Officer normally does this).
Sample letter: to the 2 residents whose driveways are at the finish line area:
NOTICE TO RESIDENTS 52/58 POST OFFICE ROAD
FINISH LINE
This coming Sunday [DATE] our club is conducting a cycling race in your area between 9am and midday. Participants will complete several laps of a course around Cudlee Creek, Fox Creek, Stafford, Miller, Post Office and Mill Roads.
There will NOT be any road closures.
Our finish line will be on Post Office Rd at the crest of the hill adjacent to the end of your driveway.
We will not be impeding your access at all. However, we will be setting up a desk with timing equipment on the verge and there will be a small number of vehicles parking in this area.
Our events often attract spectators and this one will be especially popular given the arduous course and uphill finish. I therefore propose to place cones across the verge leading to your drive to prevent people parking there. I will be on site about 7am and will do this then. If you’re planning to enter or exit your property, feel free to just move a cone or two.
For your interest we have event permits from SAPOL, the DIT and also Adelaide Hills Council
As a safety precaution there will be a 25kph speed restriction on Post Office Rd for 400 metres west of Mill Rd and also on Mill Rd for 200m north and south of Post Office Rd.
If you have any queries, I’m happy to take your call
Regards

ADELAIDE HILLS CYCLING CLUB
FOX CREEK/LOBETHAL
Our club is running an event in your area on Sunday [DATE] between 8am and midday. Riders will be coming along Miller and Post Office roads and turning left onto Mill Rd. In the interest of competitor safety, Adelaide Hills Council has given us permission to close off parking on the northern side of Post Office Rd from numbers 52/58 down to number 10.
There will be no road closures.
We would very much appreciate resident support in giving our riders a clear road. ‘No-parking’ signage will be placed at about 6am on the Sunday and the first riders will be through about 9.30
For your interest the race start is at the Bierhaus at 9.00. Cyclists will head down Pioneer Ave, Cudlee Creek Rd, up Fox Creek, Croft, Stafford, Miller, Post Office and Mill Roads. They do several loops depending on ability. Finish line will be outside 52/58 Post Office Rd.
Last year this event attracted a lot of local spectator interest. Our higher grades have riders who compete in the National Road Race Series. You are most welcome to watch the pain and suffering on the drag up to the finish line on Post Office Rd

Hi
Our club is holding a cycling road race event on [DATE] that will include the Fox Creek Rd climb from Cudleee Creek Rd to the top of the hill at Craft Rd.
Riders will come from Lobethal along Cudlee Creek Rd, turn left on to Fox Creek Rd, then left on to Craft Rd at the top of the hill, then on to Staffords Rd and back to Lobethal via Miller Rd. Riders will do a number of loops of this course.
We expect the riders to be on Fox Creek Rd from about 9:15 am to 11:30 am.
We will have ‘event’ signage at a couple of points on Fox Creek Rd: one at the exit of the lower car park for cars going up Fox Creek Rd. We will also put an ‘event’ sign at the top of Fox Creek Rd just after the Croft Rd corner for vehicles going down Fox Creek Rd.
If would be terrific if you could promote this on your social media outlets and ask Park users if they could help in a few ways:
-
- if they could approach the bike park from the Lobethal end (rather than the Cudlee Creek Rd end) as this would help reduce traffic congestion going up Fox Creek Rd.
- if park users who want to shuttle from the lower to the upper car park, it would be great if this could be done before 9:15 am or after 11:30 am as best as can be achieved.
- when going up Fox Creek Rd, if they get caught behind riders, to be patient and only pass when safe.
- when exiting the lower car park turning right to go up Fox Creek, to keep an eye out for cyclists.
Any signage you can put up to further warn park users of our event and to take care would be great.
Please let me know if we can be of any other assistance or if we can help in any other way
Regards

The message to the café:
Hi folks
On Sunday [date], we will be having a cycling event in Lobethal in the morning – starts at 9am but people will be arriving from about 8am.
We will be stationed at the hall just up the road from your café.
We’ll certainly promote your café to everyone coming (officials, riders and spectators).
Also, if you would like to put a sign-board up where riders congregate at the hall to do some promotion, please do so.
If you like, you could also provide a few vouchers that we can give as prizes to the riders. They don’t need to be big in value ($5 or $10, or discount-type vouchers) for added promotion. Can you let me know if you would like to do this? Happy to chat it over if that would help
