COVID-19: update at 18/3/2020

Hi everyone
We have been keeping a close watch on developments surrounding COVID-19, including the update today from the Government. Here’s the latest: https://www.health.gov.au/resources/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-what-you-need-to-know
As it stands as of today, we comply with the ‘number of people’ rule:
Non-essential organised outdoor gatherings should be kept to fewer than 500 people
Non-essential organised indoor gatherings should be kept to fewer than 100 people–this does not apply to schools or public transport
What we cannot comply with is the social distancing advice of:
Social distancing includes staying at home when you are unwell and keeping a distance of 1.5 metres between you and other people whenever possible.”
As the event will require people to hand over money, collect numbers and helmet covers, gather in bunches at the start of the event and so on, we will be forcing people to breach this advice.
We cannot therefore reasonably run our events in compliance with the government policy as it now stands.
As a result, we will now not run events until such time as we can fully comply.
In addition, we need to consider our volunteers, many of whom are in an age-risk group and we should not put them in a situation where they feel compromised.
Unfortunately this means we have to reluctantly cancel the Wolfgang Harder event and future events until we are able to comply with issued Government policy.
A big disappointment but keep riding – alone or with good social distance.

COVID-19

We have been keeping an eye on the COVID-19 virus pandemic and what impact it may have on our events.

Information about COVID-19 can be found on the Government Web site here:  https://www.health.gov.au/resources/collections/novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-resources

There is also a ‘FAQ’ document that would be useful to review:  https://www.health.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/2020/03/coronavirus-covid-19-frequently-asked-questions_0.pdf

Based on current Government announcements, events can proceed but we suggest you:

(a) Do not attend events if:

(b) If you have recently travelled to any other country, to monitor your health for 14 days after leaving the country. If you develop a fever or cough, seek medical advice urgently, self-isolate and do not attend any rides or races until it is confirmed that there is no infection.

(c) We also ask everyone to practice high levels of hygiene (washing hands, use hand sanitizer etc) and avoid physical contact (e.g. shaking hands in medal presentations, sharing microphones etc).
