Springhead Road Race – 9 January

First up – Happy New Year everyone. We hope you had a fantastic break and are well rested and ready for our calendar of 2022 racing!

We’re kicking things off Sunday 9 January at Mt Torrens with the very fun Springhead Rd Road Race. There’s rolling climbs, a steep pinch and some very fun descending on offer.

One change for 2022 that is worth mentioning is we’ve increased our entry fee ever so slightly to $15.
The club has invested heavily in event safety during 2021 and this will continue for 2022. To support this, we need to change our event entry fee from a ridiculously crazy low of $10, to a ridiculously low $15.

The $10 transponder hire rate stays the same but if you come regularly, consider buying one. We sell them at cost – $100, and they normally last for about 5 years or so. It’s great value when spread over its use-period.

✅ Racing is $15 (+ $10 transponder Hire if required)
✅ We have grades for all abilities and skill levels, from the incredibly fast to the not-so-fast. All welcome.
✅ Short course (G Grade) option is now available.
✅ Free trial races are available.
✅ You don’t need to be an AHCC member to race with us, just a 19+ AusCycling license holder (or u19 that is eligible to race senior racing)

Annual Charity Event – Donation to the Macclesfield CFS

On Monday 20 Dec 2021, we had the privilege of donating the entry fee proceeds of our last race for 2021 (the 12 Dec Oakwood Kermesse) to the Macclesfield CFS to help fund an upgrade to the protective eyewear for the volunteer firefighters. We raised over $1,800, so a big thanks everyone!
The AHCC runs over 20 events a year and our last event for the year has traditionally been one where all entry fees are donated to a local community organisation. This year, it was the Maccy CFS. Last year, the Hills Environmental Centre, the year before that the Balhannah CFS, before that the Macclesfield Primary School… and so it goes on back over the years.
Our club also supports the local community through hall hire fees we pay wherever we run an event (such as those at Macclesfield, Balhannah, Lobethal, Bradbury, Harrogate and Gumeracha). We also actively promote and support the local café’s that our riders and officials go to for much needed nourishment. On top of that, the club provides its members, plus all those who come and ride with us, with a healthy activity and, just as importantly, a community of friendships and belonging.
Just love this club 😊

Oakwood Road Kermesse – CFS Charity Fundraiser

This Sunday we’re holding our last race of the year – a Kermesse at Oakwood Road, with all entry fees being donated to the Macclesfield CFS, with donations earmarked to upgrade protective eyewear for the volunteer firefighters.
Oakwood Road is another classic course featuring a number of short, sharp climbs that in isolation aren’t much to write home about, but when strung together in a race get significantly more difficult as each lap passes.
Add to that a number of enjoyable descents, the course makes for a great morning of racing.
If you haven’t raced before or aren’t familiar with the lingo, a Kermesse is a graded race on a short course (typically less than 10km) and can be thought of something in between a criterium and road race. For our purposes and without getting too complicated, it’s a road race on a short course. So while the distances are similar to our road races, you just do more laps.
✅ Just for this race, entry is $15 to make a more substantial donation to the Macclesfield CFS (+ transponder hire if required)
