Stop signs( as opposed to give way signs) on race courses have over the years been marshalled without incident. However a recent ruling from the chief referee in conjunction with SAPOL has changed that. A club marshal is no longer qualified to do this.
I was advised in late March that all Masters/Vets riders must now actually “stop and go” at stop signs. For those unfamiliar with the term this involves unclipping on one side and stopping long enough to tap the ground. All referees have been instructed to brief riders accordingly and don’t be surprised if you are observed at close range.
Fortunately our club does not have many effected courses but the Apr 30 Harrogate event does. There is a STOP SIGN at the end of Pfeiffer Road at its junction with the Woodside/ Nairne Road.
We are looking at sending someone to attend a two day course to gain the necessary qualification to allow us to marshal stop signs.
